The Earth That Glitters


Bandung is raining again.


Last night and two nights ago, Bandung was poured by some shower. Again. Pretty hard. Hard enough to make some annoying noise in my ears while the drops were dropping at the roof of my office….. It was little bit weird, actually, since in the day time the whether are still too hot to be considered as a rainy season… It is also weird because it happened only in the night time. The day was still the same hot as it was in the dry season... Or even hotter, some mentioned…..


Even tough, it was still too interesting to be ignored on how the rain is showering… It is so interesting to see drops coming from the sky and pouring the land. It makes two contrast atmospheres between the day time and the night time. All of the sudden, I feel that the earth now has two faces… Two opposite attractive faces….. The face of the day time —where everything is white and bright, caused by the sun that shining too damn hot—, and the face of the night time —where everything is dark, black and deeply glowing, caused by the glitter reflected by the water drop in every surface of the earth—…..

The rainy season is always a marvelous time. At least for me. It seems that the earth is playing now. Playing with ‘his’ appearance. Playing on how ‘he’ tries to changes ‘his’ look. Yup, I believe so. For me, raining is one of many ways on how the earth tries to change his look. There is an old saying states that “raining is the way on how the earth tries to take a shower”. Take a bath. Clean its faces. Even the earth needs to change its look once in a while. Why the earth needs to change its look, becomes a question for me…... Probably, it does just to make a new excitement for people who count their life on it. Or perhaps, to make a new hope for those who keep hoping that the new beginning will be starting afterward. Pancaroba, Indonesian calls it. Familiar with “Between Seasons”. Why it becomes marvelous is another question for me…. Or even as simple as realizing that everything in between always captures me as an interesting moment. Cos we never know how the next one would be, and we never know how it excite us afterward…..

Yet, the moment of Between Seasons always become a love-hate situation for all. Some people hate to face the beginning of a new season, even tough eventually they will hate it when this new season is ending…Or the others will celebrate this new season until they get bored with it and start to miss the other season…. It’s funny… But one thing for sure, I do believe that the earth knows exactly how to change ‘his’ face. Season comes and goes when we start to be bored with the previous one. Probably he comes to constantly remind us.. About the dynamics of the life could be … About the time that will be missed…

But for me, I’d prefer to say it with my own words. I think he comes to seduce all of us. Seduces me with his attractive-girly-boyish face and temptation about the deep meaning of life ….. Cos he feels jealous with our monotonous life. He feels so irritated by our boring life…. And tries to remains us how marvelous new live could be…. or how priceful time would be..


And now I could understand it… I could feel it…..
